How We Repaired A Louis Vuitton Sac Bandlouliere Crossbody

The Initial Start

A lady first requested a quote in which we saw needed a zipper repair. The question that came up was if the zipper was salvageable or if we needed to replace it with another zipper. This would be inspected once we received the item. The lady also wanted to extend the strap for her. She then booked a virtual call with us, in order to discuss what would be done as well as the pricing.

Preparation and Materials

Once we have done the initial process and knew what we had to repair, we had the materials ready for that specific repair. We had 2 zippers. 1 similar to the original zipper, and another one that was similar but had different color teeth that were gold. I showed our client both zippers and they went with the golden one, (spoiler) it looked great. Then we went on to find a piece of leather similar to the strap to increase the length of the strap. We also had to make sure that we had the thread color ready for that specific bag, and all the other necessary materials (glue, blade, ruler, etc.). Once we had these items we were ready to go!

The Repair

Repairing a bag takes a lot of care and attention and this one was no different. We first had to check if the zipper was salvageable, which it wasn’t so we had to remove the zipper from the bag. What was salvageable was the zipper pull. We removed from the original zipper to use on the new one. After this was done we used a piece of rubber to remove the access thread that was left behind. Once we had the thread removed we proceeded to place glue on the new zipper and on the inside of where the zipper was going to sit. This made it so it was secure and didn’t move around once we started to sew. The sewing was the next part of the repair and we had to use the same color thread and had to sew through the same holes that the previous zipper was sewed on. This requires precision and accuracy. Once the zipper was done it turned out beautiful.

Now only thing left was to extend the strap. The way we did this was to get a piece of leather similar of color and material as the original strap, cut the original strap open and sew the piece of leather on the strap increasing the length. This process included slicing the edges of the new strap and original so that when they are sewn together they are leveled, added glue to both sides of the straps and then being ready to sew. Once sewn it turned out great!

Finishing Touches

Once the repair is finished we like to give some extra care to these bags. For this bag we cleaned the inside from any debris or dirt that it may have had. We cleaned the outside canvas and leather with a moist cloth which didn’t wet the leather but got any surface dirt out. Then finally we added some leather conditioner to the bag to keep the leather from cracking, becoming stiff, and making it more durable and stronger. (Leather Conditioner Coming Soon!)

The Send Off

Once everything is ready we sent a message to our client with some pictures of the repair. Then we send it off!
